About Lori

I am working to ensure that the children of Lee County get the best education we can provide. Not only for these children but for our community and the economic development of Lee County. The current LCSD Board of Education has been focusing on everything but a quality education for our students. It’s time to bring the focus back to student learning.

I oppose Common Core, high-stakes testing, and raising taxes. I support a well-rounded whole child education that includes vocational, as well as life and social skills, which will enable our students to become viable and valuable contributing members of our community.

Having lived in Lee County since 2004, I have been intensely involved in the Lee County School District, volunteering, attending district meetings, and serving as an active member on many of the School District Advisory Committees, since my son began public school. He is currently a freshman at Cypress Lake High School.

I am a full time mom, a student advocate, a voice for teachers, the second Vice President for the Lee Republican Women’s Club, and the Legislative chair for the Lee Republican Women Federated.

Before becoming a mom (the best adventure of my life!) and moving to southwest Florida, I successfully managed territories for fortune 500 medical companies in central Illinois for over 13 years. To be successful, I had to be innovative, able to work well with others, and to learn to step on toes without messing up the shine on their shoes. I called on seven area hospitals with hundreds of doctors. My job was to educate doctors, hospital staff, patients, and their families and get them on the same page in order to have successful medical outcomes, which would ensure repeat business.

I have demonstrated my beliefs in action--not just words.

I was the first parent to publicly refuse high stakes testing, for my son, in Lee County. In 2013, I founded the Facebook based group Teaching Not Testing, a group that has grown to over 700 members. In recent years, we were Instrumental in bringing the discussion of excessive testing to the community, and in working toward the District wide ‘Opt Out’ of punitive standardized state testing. Although the opt out didn’t last, it was successful in bringing the conversation to the forefront in Lee County, Florida, and the nation.

In 2014, we successfully petitioned the Board to mandate recess for all elementary school students. Yes, our youngest children were being denied recess. Our success in Lee County inspired parents in other Florida districts to petition their boards.

While some were successful, others were not, and last year we ‘Recess Moms’ joined together to convince State Legislators to mandate recess for all elementary school students in Florida.

Through all of these efforts and successes, I have maintained a friendly working relationship with our school board members, legislators, and community leaders. I’m a Problem solver and I have the Background for conflict resolution.
